Baby Drama: Part 1

Ok, so with everything that is going on I have A LOT of bills that come in and out. Back in April, we decided that since I've had radiation and would be starting treatment that we should seek fertility treatment. I called the doctors office, saw them the same week and 3 weeks later my hubby and I were officially the proud "parents" of several embryos. The whole experience happened very quickly since I needed to start tumor treatment.

Today, I got a phone call that made me cry. Here's how the whole thing went down. I called my insurance company a week before I went to the fertility clinic to find out what would be covered and what would not be covered. The dude (I seriously wish I remembered his name) was awful. He read me what was covered from the insurance company's website. I was frustrated and didn't understand why he wouldn't help me. So flash forward a week and I'm sitting with my husband at the fertility clinic. I'm reading the healthcare's website and it says in small print that you need to get a claim opened before you seek treatment. The guy NEVER mentioned that to me. So I call while we are waiting for the doctor and open a claim. I then handed the phone to my husband and made him open a claim (since we are both have separate insurance).

I get a call 6 days later from the claim center with a woman who was my case worker. She needed to talk to the clinic. So I called the clinic and gave them this woman's information for them to call. Now... 7 MONTHS later I find a few claims for my fertility treatment were declined. I call and they say they were declined because I never opened a claim? So I opened an appeal and they said no, I never opened a claim.

I'm super annoyed and the guy who called to talk to me was not helpful. I'm standing in Target crying because he said that I needed to solve it on my own. Call the nurse, he said. Like I remember what nurse I talked to 7 months ago for a fertility claim. I remembered that I had called my fertility clinic to give them the information. So I did eventually find her name. I'm annoyed because the way they track if you are approved is if the nurse marks your file as approved. No formal process with numbers or anything - just a note. So now I have to see why she didn't mark my file. I talked to her and the woman at the hospital/clinic talked to her.

THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO BE FOCUSED ON RIGHT NOW. I need to get better. I do not want to be chasing a paper trail where some woman forgot to mark my account. I called. I opened my case. If you failed to mark it down, that is not my mistake.
