So a week after the news and I seem to be heading in the right direction. I have finally got all of my medical records faxed over to the correct location and an appointment scheduled to see Dr D'Adamo. I booked my flight and hotel which feels like it's bankrupting me. I know NYC is expensive but I failed to recognize just how expensive until it was all said and done. Then I realized today that in order to get seen by both Sloan-Kettering and MD Anderson I need my original pathology slides. What was news to me was that the slides get "checked out" by the hospital who wants to see them. When they are done looking at the slides, they return them to their original home. Interesting, right?
So in my mind, I have finished up getting my second opinion and will wait for the slides to get another second opinion. So then I had to decide what to do while I'm waiting. Decisions, decisions.
The doctor said my tumor didn't grow in my shoulder but ate/eroded more of the bone. So I asked some questions and then he said, that the erosion might have just been a late side-effect of the radiation I had last year. So the doctor and I decided to continue with the chemo until I see other doctors. However, we decided that we should have the original radiologist look to see what he thinks is happening. The original radiologist saw the slides but wanted to get other opinions. Then a second radiologist (related to my chemo doctor) said the bone wasn't getting worse it was just the angle of the film.
So basically I have a bunch of stumped doctors who can't figure out if my tumor is growing or shrinking. I am glad that I'm seeing a second doctor. I'm not sure what to expect but I'm excited for a new possibility. I'm hoping that the chemo is working and that I can still be finished with this tumor in April.
