Long Overdue

It seems like forever since I've posted but I'm beginning to think I should do this more often. After all my doctor's appointments in October I found out 2 things. (1) My skin allergy was really an allergy. I'm allergic to paraben and poly-quatranium. So I'm avoiding them with all of my little heart. (2) My October MRI showed that they didn't think my tumor came back. Around February I started noticing a new hard area at the back of my shoulder and the top of my arm. I figured it was just more scar tissue but it grew. I knew IT was back. I called my doctor and went for an MRI. The MRI came back and I'm back again with my third round of going to the doctor to treat it.

The course of treatment for the desmoid will be chemotherapy. Typing the word makes me sick to my stomach. It's been 6 weeks since they decided to go ahead with the chemo. During those 6 weeks I went and created 8 baby embryos. Between the radiation I had Jan-March of 2009 and the chemo, I want to make sure I can still have kids one day. I am OctoMom.

So chemo therapy started yesterday. I'm taking vinblastine and methotrexate once a week for 25 weeks and then every other week for another 25 weeks. One whole year. The good news is that I am finished with my very first treatment. I went yesterday to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital and saw Dr Cripe for treatment #1. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The longest part was waiting for the medicine. They took blood, made me sign paperwork and then we waited. The injection of the 2 drugs took less than 10 minutes. The vinblastine felt like fireants going up my arm but the methotrexate went smoothly. Next time I get to go get bloodwork in advance so I don't have to wait as long. They weren't able to give me the antu-neasea medicine in the IV so I took pills instead. The medicine upset my stomach all night but I'm feeling much better now.

Hopefully I'll update weekly.
