Seriously, the last week has been absolutely horrible. Caremark got the request for me for Nexavar and they said they needed prior authorization (since its horribly expensive). Authorization was given by my doctor and Caremark denied me for the drug. You see, its only FDA approved for liver and kidney failure. My doctor appealed and sent in a published research paper saying that the drug DOES work for desmoids. The appeal was declined. Now my doctor is doing a doctor-to-doctor appeal. I should hear back today.
In the meantime, I applied for Nexavar's REACH program. It's for financial assistance to pay for the drugs. They got my paperwork and declined me. If the drug costs $6400 a month, it would cost $75k for the year. I can tell you that if I ate ramen every day, that we would not be able to pay for that. There is no way. So if I get denied with the doctor-to-doctor appeal, we are going to take out a loan. It will be ok and no, I don't want donations/money. If you want to give money to something, donate to the DTRF. We'll survive. We'll take a vacation to Canada and buy the pills. That should cut down the cost to $37k for the whole year. If it heals me, it will be worth it.
Oh and we took my adorable pup to the vet this past week. He has heartworms which means for 30 days, he has to take 2 pills twice daily. It's like he got sick so we could be miserable together. I love that fluff ball.
