Today is day 4 in a most-awful week. I feel all doom & gloom today. I'm hoping for that to pass sooner rather than later as I like to think of myself as an upbeat person. Anyway, I went back to the hospital today to get an EKG to prove my heat is healthy (it is). I also had to get blood work that they missed yesterday. Plus there was a ton of paperwork just to get the RN to fax my prescription to my insurance company.
The insurance company declined it. It was something we expected as Nexavar is normally only used for 5 types of tumors. It's relatively new and super expensive. I was wondering "how expensive" since if insurance doesn't cover it, one option would be to buy it from the company myself and the company would reduce the price of the pills. OMG.
The pharmacy price of sorafenib is approximately $5400 a month in the United States
I guess you can buy it from a Canadian website for $6400 which would last me about 2 months. So that would cost $3 per month. Let's hope that is not the case and that insurance pays for it. Otherwise, we will be eating ramen, selling our cars, and putting all our valuable on craigslist.
