Zometa is NOT My Friend

I have to say, I was excited that the first 12 hours after the Zometa that I felt really good. Then things took a turn. I woke up on Thursday morning with horrible chest pain. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. So I went back to sleep hoping that the feeling would go away. It did not. In the end, the hubby and I ended up going to the ED (Emergency Department). They freaked me out, hooked a bunch of machines to me and determined that I wasn't having a heart attack (at least I think that what they were testing me for). So after 5 hours, they ran my blood work and determined nothing was wrong with me. They gave me some ibuprofen, zantac and sent me home. They chalked it up to heartburn and muscle-soreness.

As soon as we got home, I started to get cold. Nothing could make me warm including 2 blankets and sitting by the fire. I woke up at 3 and 5 am with chills and sweats. I figured this wasn't anything horrible. Turns out with the port if your temp spikes above 100.4 degrees it means you might have a blood infection. So around 2pm I had another round of shakes which resulted in a fever of 100.8. We went BACK to the ED. It's bad when you go twice in 24 hours, right? Anyway, they ran more blood tests and early results showed no infection. Lovely. Only 3 hours in the ED the second time around.

Last night, I woke up at 2:15 with more whole body chills. Since it was an existing symptom I didn't have to go back to the ED. I did have another fever of 100.4 though. Needless to say, it's no 5pm and no more chills, no more fever and no more sweating. So I *think* I'm getting better. The doctor said he thinks everything is a side effect from the Zometa. Oh Mr Zometa, you are not my friend. The doctor says, the good news is that the side effects should be better next time. Really? We are going to do this again?!?! Ugh.

At least I have a few days to recover before I go back in for treatment this Wednesday.
