Bone Treatment

So today I had my very first bone appointment. The day was pretty painless for the most part. I'm resting now but that was to be expected. The drug I'm taking for my bone is called Zometa. If you'll recall (old post here) the Zometa was going to be a pretty long hospital visit. The day started off with me and Andy going to the hospital. I miss the ladies who check me in at the clinic but day hospital was much less crowded.

So I go through the normal routine of getting all my measurements done and the nurse came into chat with me. So far it seemed like a normal clinic visit. I actually went and got a baseline x-ray of my bone. The good news is that the bone didn't seem to get worse from October to December. We did discover that there are a few staples in my arm from my last surgery. Cool, but really weird.

So I came back to the room and they hooked me up to a machine. I got this sugar/salt water pumped into me over 2 hours. That helps your body absorb the medicine. Then I got switched out from the IV fluid and got my bone drug. That only took 30 minutes to get pumped into me. Here's a picture of my baby bag of Zometa - isn't it tiny?

I normally don't get hooked up to a pump. My chemo is a "push" treatment which means I get 2 shots into the port that are pushed over 7 minutes each. Today was a longer day but in total it only took 5 hours. So 1 hour less than what I anticipated!

I'm home and side effects aren't horrible like the other treatments. My vision got blurred from the drugs and I feel a little queezy. This queezy is nothing compared to normal Wednesdays. I'm laying in my new chaise chair reading, surfing the internet and watching Netflix. Not a bad day.
