We had a great weekend! My husband and I threw the "Dead Fred Party" on Saturday. Despite the rain, we had a great turn-out. We had some out of town visitors come in on Friday night, then more out-of-towners come in on Saturday along with friends and family. I have to admit, I kept checking all the weather sites online to see what would be happening during the day. In the early morning it looked like we were going to get 24 hours of straight rain. I cringed.
However, I'm happy to report that although there was rain it didn't last too long. We had a pavilion which kept people mostly dry until the rain stopped. I think we had around 50 people actually show up! My husband and his friend manned the grill, and cooked up a storm. 33 pieces of chicken and 50 cheeseburger! Picture are on their way later in the week
The most exciting part is that we raised money for a good cause. I asked friends and family to donate to the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation. The total {so far} has exceeded my lofty goal of $1000. I'm in awe of people who supported the DTRF. It's a disease that had very little funding since it's so rare. In the US there are only 900 cases reported a year. In comparison, breast cancer has over 200,000 new cases in the US. Both important diseases to research and to find a cure and I'm glad to help make a a difference with everyone's help.
So thank you to everyone who donated. I can't begin to express my gratitude.
